The 7th Freedom Drive took place, for the first time in Brussels, on September 30 to make the European decision-makers aware of the independent living activists´concerns.
This year, hundreds of people with disabilities reached the European Parliament, under the theme “Indepent living: The next Generation”.
Even though, the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNRPD) adopted the final recommendations to the EU to oblige the EU to take all possible measures to ensure the right of people with disabilities to health, personal mobility and participation, among other, persons with disabilities continue facing a lack of services and accessibility.
The Freedom drive was an excellent opportunity to boost an exchange between participants and to learn from each other what the different realities are in Europe.
Likewise, European decision-makers had the chance to meet people with disabilities from all over Europe and become aware of the gaps in the implementation of the UN CRPD.
