Three ‘explorers’ will soon be braving the wilds of Costa Rica for a good cause!

Richard Astle, Managing Director of Athene Communications and Chair of the charity Shine, will be embarking on a 12 day trek for the charity with friends Tony Bovill from Sheffield and David Turnock from Peterborough (pictured, preparing for the trek with friends.)

Costa Rica is home to 5% of the planet’s biodiversity and the trio may be serenaded by howler monkeys and exotic bird calls as the ‘Coast to Coast Rainforest Trek’ takes them all the way from the Pacific to the Caribbean Coast. From palm tree-lined tropical beaches the team will brave their way through rainforest and mangrove swamps, cloudforest, smoking volcanoes, steep, muddy trekking and exhilarating white water rafting!

This will be Richard’s last challenge in his role as Chair of Shine. “After 13 years I am standing down as Chairman of Shine this month. The idea of a final fund-raising challenge seemed an appropriate way to bow out. It will be a challenge, no doubt, but the aim is to raise awareness of this wonderful charity. And hopefully Costa Rica will be more welcoming that Morocco, my last trek for Shine, which ended in an unplanned medical evacuation from the desert!
