On the fifth edition of its Institutional Awards ceremony, which took place on June 20 in Madrid, the Spanish Federation of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Associations, FEBHI, rewarded IF with its "Lifetime Achievement Award". IF has received the award for its relevant and ongoing activities for the promotion, development and advancement of projects that support and improve the inclusion of people with disabilities. Through this award, FEBHI recognizes the ongoing work of IF with regard to the empowerment and independence of people with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus since it was founded in 1979. FEBHI also recommends IF for its commitment to projects in developing countries and its role in the protection of the human rights of persons with disabilities.
FEHBI's Institutional Awards ceremony was initiated in 2009 to publicly recognise the work of people, professionals and institutions in promoting human rights and improving the quality of life, community participation and full citizenship of people with disabilities and their families, specifically those with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.
Five other awards were given to the National Ombudsman, the Iberdrola Foundation, for its solidarity projects, Dr. Ampar Cuxart, head of the Rehabilitation service and coordinator of the Unit for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus at hospital Vall D`Hebron in Barcelona, Pascual Martinez, Manager of Fundación Caja Murcia, for his personal involvement and his continuing support for projects and initiatives of the Asociación Murciana de Padres e Hijos con Espina Bífida (AMUPHEB), and to the project of the Asociacion de Espina Bífida e Hidrocefalia de Alicante, "Camino de Santiago for people with Spina Bifida and other disabilities".
