The Global Summit “Future Fortified” is part of the international efforts to work on food fortification - more than 2 billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiency: by fortifying food with vitamins and minerals, people can get healthier, smarter and more productive.

From 9 to 11 September, experts, governments and beneficiaries will bring good practises and lessons learnt from successful programmes and studies on Food Fortification in Latin America, Uganda and Indonesia, with a detailed look into future projects across Africa.

Margo Whiteford, IF President, together with Lieven Bauwens, IF Secretary General will attend the Global Summit, to discuss the importance of food fortification and Folic Acid in order to prevent neural tube defects (NTDs) such as Spina Bifida.

The First Global Summit on Food Fortification is hosted by GAIN and the government of Tanzania and co-covered by FAO, UNICEF, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The African Union (AU), USAID, the World Food Programme (WFP) and WHO, that will explain its Fortification Guidelines .
