My daughter, Mariah, was born with spina bifida myelomeningocele. She uses a wheelchair and has a VP Shunt. Mariah was born with a lesion at L5; her bladder and bowels don’t function.

Mariah truly inspires me everyday. She is now 15 years old and is finishing her Sophomore year.

Mariah is a high school cheerleader and has been cheering since age 5. She cheered for The Ceres Cowboys and now for Ceres High. Last year, Mariah made the J/V cheer team. This year, she made the Varsity cheer team.

She is truly an inspiration to me and everybody she's around. Mariah never lets her physical limitations hold her back. I saw the magazine, Faces of Spina Bifida, and I thought the readers would like to hear her story.
