The UN Committee on the Right of Persons with Disability (UNCRPD) completed its examination of the report of the European Union on its implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

On Thursday 27, IF took part in the side event, organised by EDF, to present its Response to the list of issues on the European Union Report to the UNCRPD and to answer to the questions of the UN Committee members.

Within that network, IF focusses on the Right to Health and the role the European Union could play to fight violations of rights of persons with disabilities.

In that capacity, IF attended the EU Constructive Dialogue, on 27/28 August, between the UN and the EU. IF was happy to notice that the committee asked specifically how the European Union is going to ensure that all Europeans have equal access to their Right to Health.

IF reminds that denial to persons with SBH of multidisciplinary lifelong health services of high quality constitutes a violation of their right to health under the Convention. It calls on the EU to enact legislation to prohibit discrimination of persons with disabilities in access to health, and ensure that people with disabilities who travel across EU borders to receive medical treatment are able to fully rely on the EU legislation on cross-border healthcare.

The Committee will publish Friday, 4 September its final report and recommendations for the EU on how to improve its work on the UN CRPD.
