Representatives of the European Year of Citizens Alliance (EYCA) of which IF is a member, met with the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz.

The aim of this meeting was to discuss citizenship participation as a vital aspect for Europe's future. For people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus discrepancies in the accessibility of healthcare services still remain main barriers in executing a fully active and participatory citizenship.

Opinion polls remark the political mistrust existing in Europeans due to the difficult social and economic situation, indicating the need of more openness and transparency in European policies.

President Martin Schulz said that "Europe can no longer survive without a social pillar" which leads to ponder civil society organizations as "valuable allies" in the achievement of solidarity, equality and democracy.

EYCA enhances a dynamic citizen participation in the European project by a dialogue between European institutions with associations and NGOs.
